I hate holding my soldering iron in one hand and my solder in the other, especially when I need to hold a wire in the right place to be soldered. helping hands aren’t enough!

So I’m designing a device that adds on to my existing iron. It will have a ratchet mechanism to feed solder forward, and a gun style handle for easy holding of the iron and the feeder.

Here’s my first attempt at the central ratchet feed mechanism.

Study for a ratchet mechanism. Trying to make a hand powered solder feed system to attach on my existing solder iron. Open source, of course. #solder #iron #feed #gun #ratchet #mechanism #study #handpowered #mod #addon #diy #electronics #tool

Found this, which looks simpler than my ratchet system: http://3dtrek.com/long-reach-hot-melt-glue-gun/

Version 2, somewhere between a hot glue gun and an AR-15 receiver. Every part can be printed separately for lower cost customizing and prototyping. #glue #gluegun #solder #solderiron #ar15 #receiver #notagun #3dprinting #functional #functionalprint #tool
