Hi all,
I’ve been having a wild time calibrating my M3.
I’d go one way, then another, etc.
Probably did something like 8 prints before actually heeding the instructions, but…
I took Dan’s advice about saying the pulleys are 32mm.
To get a full image on 18″x24, I pretty much had to set the settings for the media at 3’x4′, and I finally stopped bowing at about 1350 mm wide, which is absolutely wrong for a 3’x4′ ply board, but it stopped the bow.
Pinch – interesting one. Saw I needed to be lower. Homed it, took it -30 Y each time andREALLY IMPORTANT – just started testing lines – horizontal and vertical. Adjust, home, Again. Adjust, home, Again. Adjust, home, Again. Adjust, home, Again. Adjust, home, Again. Adjust, home, Again. Adjust, home, Again. Adjust, home, Again. Adjust, home, Again. Adjust, home, Again. Adjust, home, Again. Adjust, home, Again. Adjust, home, Again.
FUNNY note- my best results at the moment have been at dead center.
Water – I had some issues in this wild ride with it taking my carriage higher and needing more water. Dan said he only had an inch in each, and after I calibrated, I didn’t exactly need the depleted uranium weights I’d been using (had 5″ in mine)
Current situation – slight v-pinch (maybe 3-5 degrees), but a lot better. No bow.
Dan, Do I need to go lower?
_Patrick Lichty, Milwaukee.BTW, I did a Big Crazy Curve of Muybridge’s Cat study (heavily modified), and put it on my Facebook, and within 10 minutes a friend of mine who works for the Guggenheim bought it – on the spot. Crazy.

3′ is 914.4mm, 4′ is 1219.2mm.
Tell your friend if the Guggenheim wants to do a show on generative art I’m interested. I’ll be in NYC on the 11th and 12th, we should talk.

Thanks for the homing suggestions.
Guggenheim? I’ve been in the Whitney Bi and MoMA, and I just sigh about the Guggenheim. If you’re not someone like Ai Wewei or Matthew barney, no go. But there are Glitch festivals in Chicago, and an annual generative art conference in Italy, as well as the International Symposium on the Electrinic Arts (This year in Vancouver). -
