Making a draw bot using Arduino sketches only

Hi Guys,

I was hoping someone could help me out, I am trying to move learn more about arduino coding its self, specifically making a drawing robot. I currently have a fully functional makelangelo, but just for learning sakes I want to do it with out using the great program that was built. I have explored the code that program uses, and I kind of understand it, but I need a push in the right direction.

The end goal is to use a webcam to take a picture, use opencv to kinda of filter it, then the robot draws it. I still want to use the makelangelo firmware etc but more or less as a library like situation if that is possible.
