Make beautiful posters, sewing patterns, maps, art, and more!

Makelangelo 6 turns digital designs into drawings with a real pen. Watch your ideas take shape, line by line, with a robot that makes the process as captivating as the finished piece.

The next generation of Makelangelo keeps the familiar size of the Makelangelo 5 and introduces updated electronics, touchscreen controls, and an improved pen holder.

Power supply sold separately. Add a US or EU power supply to suit your region.

How does Makelangelo work?

Mount Makelangelo above your drawing surface. Two motors move belts attached to the pen holder, guiding the pen across the paper. A third motor lifts the pen between strokes. This type of drawing robot is called a polargraph.

Use Makelangelo Software to prepare your artwork for drawing. Save the drawing file to an SD card, insert it into the robot, and select it using the touchscreen. Your computer can be disconnected while Makelangelo draws.

What will you make?

Explore pen-and-paper art, turn digital designs into physical drawings, or experiment with patterns and geometry. Make something for your home, develop a creative project, or give students a hands-on way to explore the connection between art, mathematics, and robotics.  Posters, sewing patterns, maps, art, and more – the only limit is your creativity!

What’s new in Makelangelo 6?

  • Updated electronics: refreshed control hardware for the next generation of Makelangelo.  Quieter, faster, smoother.
  • Improved pen holder: a revised design with bearing-supported arms and a motorized pen lift.  More precision!
  • Touchscreen controls: home the robot and select drawings from the on-screen menu.
  • Familiar size: the same size as Makelangelo 5.  No change to your workflow.

Getting started

Some assembly and mounting are required. Our illustrated guides take you through assembling the pen holder, fitting the belts and counterweights, mounting the robot, and starting your first drawing.  You’ll need a pen, paper, and suitable mounting hardware. Allow clear space below the robot so the counterweights can move freely.
